When to make your cheap phone call

You may have tried some other instant dial services. Many of them advertise the fact that they allow you to make an international phone call for the price of a national rate call. This may not be quite as reasonable as it sounds.

National call rates cost different amounts depending on when you call - daytime (peak), evening (off-peak) or weekends. When they give you a figure in pence most of these services quote their rates from the cheapest time of day to call.

If you look hard enough their websites will eventually tell you that the peak rates for a national call could cost you 7.51 pence per minute* or more. There can also be a different access number for weekend calls. If you forget these and use the weekday number you could find yourself paying peak week day rates. A lot more than you were expecting. BT have also recently made the time at which peak rates apply 20% longer.

My Mondo charge one price all day, every day. So a four pence per minute call to Australia costs you three pence whenever you call. Not 7.5p or other price and there are no special weekend access numbers.
