![]() My Mondo Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)The things you need to know
My Mondo can be used from any phone, anywhere in the UK. From a landline at home or in the office or from a mobile phone on any UK network. Even payphones. All you need to do is find the My Mondo access number for the country you wish to call. Dial that access number, then dial 00, the country code followed by the number you wish to reach. The cost of your international call will appear on your next phone bill. Full details of using My Mondo with your network operator can be found on the Where can I use My Mondo? page. Can I call right now? Yes. There's no wait or hassle to get started. No accounts to set-up or pre-pay. No need to change your phone, line or number.
Which countries can I call?
How does it work?
I haven't got a BT phone If you are phoning from a different phone service provider eg Virgin Phone, OneTel or Talk Talk the My Mondo service works in exactly the same way. However networks other than BT can choose to add a small surcharge to the My Mondo tariff if they wish to. These networks keep this charge for themselves. At the time of writing My Mondo charges were the same when using BT, Virgin Phone, Tesco Home Phone, OneTel and Talk Talk lines. We urge you to check with your own network service provider before using My Mondo as they may change their rates without warning. We will always inform you when we change our tariffs though.
What about calling from a mobile?
Do I need an account?
Are there any PIN numbers?
What's the country dialling code?
What time should I make my call?
How much does it cost?
Better than pre-paid calling cards
Better than residential phone services
Better than other instant dial services National call rates cost different amounts depending on when you call - daytime (peak), evening (off-peak) or weekends. When they give you a figure in pence most of these services quote their rates from the cheapest time of day to call. If you look hard enough their websites will eventually tell you that the peak rates for a national call could cost you 7.51 pence per minute* or more. There can also be a different access number for weekend calls. If you forget these and use the weekday number you could find yourself paying peak week day rates. A lot more than you were expecting. BT have also recently made the time at which peak rates apply 20% longer. My Mondo charge one price all day, every day. So a four pence per minute call to Australia costs you three pence whenever you call. Not 7.5p or other price and there are no special weekend access numbers.
*BT national call rate from a domestic landline. See T&Cs page for details.
What's wrong with national call rate services? "Watchdog Ofcom...wants to stop firms marketing 0845 and 0870 as local and national numbers because calling these numbers can cost more than a local or national call."There is further reading on the Ofcom website.
How can I make sure you are a trustworthy company? ICSTIS (Independent Committee for Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services) is the body that regulates all premium rate number services. That's the My Mondo access numbers that start with 09 (the ones that cost 15p per minute and more). The ICSTIS website will give full information about their role.
Ofcom (The Office of Communications) is the regulator for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services. The Ofcom website will give full information about their role.
